Where are Hidden Beaches on Long Island?
As I live down in Florida, and sometimes feel the need to get the heck out of Hell in the Summer Heat, I’ve been scouting out places to visit.
Are there Hidden Beaches on Long Island that are Great Places to Go? Yes! and here are three!
The quick answer is Yes! But, don’t expect many locals to talk to you about them. Locals tend to keep these places quiet and private, because of course, they want to enjoy them too.
Searching for the perfect place to enjoy the beach without wild and crazy enclaves of beach goers is not easy, but we’ll break down some of the best we’ve been able to find here.
Callahan’s Beach
Callahan’s beach is located in Fort Salonga, and in a quiet location where you can enjoy private walks, and quick drives to local destinations.
Local accommodations include the Chalet Inn and Suites with a 3.5 star review. (631) 757-4600
A nice alternative is the Commack Motor Inn. (631) 499-9060
Lost of restaurants in the area from fast food to find Italian.
The beach is long and narrow. There is plenty of room for parking, and make sure you pack your care well, because you’ll be enjoying the long narrow beach for quite some time.
Lifeguards are on during season. Secluded, this may be just what you need for a quite beach stay, for a day or a weekend.

Orient Beach State Park
Orient Beach State Park is about as far East you can go in NY State. Located at the North East Point of Long Island, this state park and beach could not be any more distant from life as most of us know it. However you won’t be disappointed once you get there.
Orient Beach has over eight miles of beach frontage on the bay. Not just a beach, there are playgrounds, picnic tables, pavilions and recreation programs. Also, a long nature trail, hiking and biking, fishing and even food concessions (in season).
The park is open all year, but there is no overnight camping allowed. Keeping that in mind, there are a couple of good accommodations locally that you can stay at. One local place is the Orient Inn, (631) 323-2300. A bit further away from the beach is The Blue Inn, (631) 477-2800
